about

"This was to be our second EP following the 2009 release of ‘Music for Animals’ but our collective gusto for the band was in the doldrums. Danny had Dune Rats on the early stages of a rolling boil and we put the tools down before the EP was mastered and the songs saw the light of day.

I went on immediately to join Blonde on Blonde and joined Villains members Liam and Dylan in The Ginger Witches which was a project allocated by Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre to our friend who’s hair was of a carroty nature.

We recorded ‘Teenage Kicks’ by The Undertones which was included on the EP for an underwear commercial and were promised studio time reimbursement and a wad of fivers (at least) but we saw neither.

The ‘Submarine’ single was released in early 2010 and we toured the East Coast, playing shows with with Gay Paris and Redcoats. Two bands which also expired like IGA chicken sandwiches.

Villains played some pretty grand shows over the brief life of the band such as V festival, opening the Virgin Metro for Richard Branson (a show which cost us ties to Virgin and our management due to our boozy calamity of a performance) and Playground Weekender festival headlined by BJM in the Blue Mountains.

We regularly received little to no payment for shows as a result of smashed up mic stands and microphones during Danny’s flurries of on stage chaos yet somehow managed to tour the East coast relentlessly without dipping deep into our own pockets. This is a testament to Danny’s top shelf managerial skills. We’ve all seen Dune Rats giant inflatable rat and pyrotechnic extravaganza! He’s a potato gem and a scholar.

We all cut our teeth with Villains as a touring band with momentum. I couldn’t be more glad it happened."
